This year’s winter homecoming was a far warmer affair, with frost, let alone snow. For many, freshers in particular, it was the first racing opportunity of the year.
Division 1 saw the Lightweight VIII placing 7th overall and winning Band 2 Eights. However, ahead of them saw the 2nd VIII place 5th and the Men’s 1st VIII second overall behind. the University of London.
The Women’s crews raced the fours and quads in the morning, resulting in the Band 1 quad coming away as the fastest Women Quad for the second year in a row. The band 2 quad placed second in their category along with the band 2 coxed four.
Rutherford Head also sees the Blue Star Club return to the Tyne to square up against Tyrian Club, the alumni of UL. Both the Blue Star Men’s and Women’s crews claimed bragging rights until next year…
Division 2 saw the Women move into the eights and the 1st VIII placing second in band 1 eights. The Women’s novice VIII raced for the first time, finishing a credible 3rd in band 5 Eights.
The Men’s top quad were the fastest crew of the division and the quickest quad of the day. The band 2 quad were second, seven seconds behind the category winners. The Lightweight four, raced in band 3 and won their category
