Head Of The Charles

In 2019, Blue Star had 3 crews represent Newcastle at the highest quality alumni rowing event in the world: the Head of the Charles Regatta. The standard of the Men’s alumni eights category was outstanding. Our more recent graduates finished 10th with our older men 6 seconds behind in 13th. The Women’s alumni eight had a good row coming 28th in a very high quality field

Blue Star Dinner

Taking place after The Head of The River Race, the Blue Star Dinner provides a celebratory evening, both for the crews involved and also those reminiscing.  Most of the attendees usually go on to the rowing clubs along the Putney embankment following the dinner to continue the party.

Henley Town & Visitors

The annual August regatta provide a chance for alumni to come together and race on the infamous Henley stretch against our domestic Alumni competition. As it’s raced over the half the course it doesn’t require much fitness!

Trinity Regatta

The weekend trip to Dublin for Trinity Regatta is a favourite amongst the Alumni. Hosted by Trinity College Dublin, the regatta provides an excellent side by side narrow river racing against top Irish crews. With Guinness flowing at the Club dinner later that evening and a night out in Dublin city centre it makes for a fantastic weekend away with the Blue Star.

Henley BBQ

Held he Saturday of Henley week (normally in Butler’s field behind the enclosures) is a highlight of the rowing calendar. An informal but fantastically attended event, the BBQ has progressed to the point where it regularly outclasses its competition – as NUBC does on the water. This is a chance for current students, alumni and supporters to me over food and drink. Tickets are are sold throughout Henley week and can also be bought on the day.
