BUCS Head

Despite Ellen and Dennis’ best efforts, BUCS Head went ahead. Following the cancellation of the Beginner events, the Championship and Intermediate boats raced on Sunday.

Division 1 saw our Women’s Eights continue their BUCS domination, with wins in both the Championship and Intermediate categories. Over the past few seasons, the Lightweight Men have established themselves as the top Lightweight program in the country, and this was continued in the first division as they walked away with the Lightweight Coxless Four Title. Division 1 also saw two more bronze medals in the Men’s Championship Quad and Intermediate Four.

As the winds picked up during the afternoon, the decision was made to shorten the course for the second division. The Men took to the eights and came away with silver in both the Championship and Intermediate category alongside the 3rd Eight finishing 8th. The Lightweight Eight placed fifth and the 4th and 5th Eight were 14th and 19th respectively.

Once again the Women excelled in their respectively categories. The Intermediate Four won gold, the Championship crew came away with silver. In the Intermediate quads,  NUBC placed 2nd, 4th and 8th.

These results saw Newcastle University win the men’s Women’s and overall Victor Ludorum.

It was a privilege to be one of the three host clubs and show of the Tyne to the rest of the U.K. The location of BUCS Head 2021 will be confirmed at a later date.
