Rutherford Head sees the culmination of all the training in the first part winter.  This year’s race also saw Four crews from the Blue Star Club racing in the alumni category.

Division 1 saw the Men’s Squad in the Eights and the Women in the smaller boats.  The 1st VIII were the quickest crew of the day, beating Edinburgh by 25 seconds.  The rest of the Men’s Eights all placed in the top ten.  The Lightweights were fourth overall beating UL’s 1st VII and the 2nd and 3rd VIIIs were 6th and 8th respectively.

The Women’s Quad were the fastest quad in the division with the other crews racing well against strong opposition from the likes of Tideway Scullers and Edinburgh University.  The 2nd quad were 6th in Band 1.    Division 1 also saw the two Women’s alumni Eights racing.  The crews were matched and finished 5 seconds apart.

In the Second Divison, the Women’s Squad moved into the bigger boats. The 1st VIII placed 4th in their category.  The 2nd VIII were 7th in Band 1 while the 3rd VIII raced well to placed 3rd in Band 2.  Our Men’s Lightweight Quad were 3rd overall in the division, beating both of the Blue Star Alumni Eights who finished 5th and 6th, just ahead of the top Coxless Four who won their category, along with the top Coxed Four.

Following the day’s racing the club was delighted to announce the names of two of our pairs.  The women’s pair was named after Alice Leake and the boat donated by the Blue Star Club was named after Tim Clarke.
