As is tradition, the winter head racing season came to an end with the head of the River race on the Tideway.  This year, Newcastle University sent four eights and looked to defend the Lightweight pennant won the year before.

The first VIII, along with help from James Rudkin, went off 14 and had an outstanding row which saw them overtake Tideway Scullers’ at Barnes Bridge.  They ultimately finished 9th overall returning NUBC to the top 10.  The Lightweight eight, containing a mixture of returners from last year’s pennant wining crew and the 2nd Lightweight eight, set off 22nd, one place ahead of Tyne Rowing Club.  The crew went on to retain the Lightweight pennant for the second year in a row, putting themselves in an excellent position for BUCS Regatta.  Both the 2nd and 3rd Heavyweight 8s put together strong pieces in their final head race of the season.  They came 41st and 68th respectively.

These results put the club in an excellent position leading into BUCS Regatta and the Boat Race of the North against Durham University
