GB Trials, WCIII and Europeans Success

Last weekend saw both the second World European Championships, and GB Rowing Trials.

Unfortunately - due to lack of entries - NUBC Alumni Emily Ford, stroking the W8+, was unable to race; although this was gutting as it would have been an incredible race to watch, we can’t wait to see them at the big one later this year…

Tom Ford and James Rudkin (stern pair of the Men’s 8+) did phenomenally, after coming second in the race for lanes, they produced one of the most exciting races so far this year in the final, just beating the German’s to the post to get Gold. Huge congratulations to them.

Additionally, a massive congratulations and good luck to NUBC Alumni Lola Anderson, who has been selected to race in a single for GBR at the World Championships III this June.

For GB Trials, NUBC sent down seven athletes.

From the women’s squad: Hannah Cowie in a pair with Caitlin Warren (from Chester-le-Street Amateur Rowing) and Izzy Lack in a single

And from the Men’s Squad: Alex Milne and Bruce Turnell in a pair, Dan Wilmot and Hal Flowerdew also in a pair and Joe Adamson in a single.

Alex Milne and Bruce Turnell took 3rd in the B Final, Izzy Lack took 2nd in the C Final and Hannah Cowie and Caitlin took 3rd in the C Final.

After winning the time trial, Joe Adamson took 3rd in the A Final.

Huge congratulations to all the athletes who raced this weekend, especially after dealing with such an unpredictable last year to prepare.

With BUCS and BROTN not too far off now, hopefully this is just the beginning of an incredibly exciting season ahead of us.
