Senior World Championships

Our students and alumni returned from Plovdiv, Bulgaria with two bronze medals at the World Rowing Championships.

Tom Ford opened his campaign with a heat win in the Men’s Coxless Four.  The quartet continued to build momentum with a second place finish in the semi-final with only Italy beating them.  After a well-fought row, the British Four came away with an excellent bronze medal in a race that saw Australia take gold and Italy in the silver medal position.

Following a tough season for the Men’s Eight, James Rudkin was swapped into the bow seat for the World Championships.  A tough opening heat saw Great Britain move into the repechage which they then preceded to dominate.  In a final that came down to a bow ball between silver and bronze, Australia took silver on the surge putting GB into the bronze medal position.

Gemma Hall placed third in her opening heat of the Lightweight Women’s Quad and then repeated this performance in the repechage, earning a spot in the A final.  The British boat ultimately placed 5th in the final, a race which was won by China.

After a silver medal in the Lightweight Quad at the U23 World Championships, Ryan Ballantine raced for Ireland in the Lightweight Men’s Quad at his first senior championships.  The Irish finished third in the heat and proceeded through the repechage and ultimately finished 5th in the World after making the A final.

Emily Ford was selected as part of  the Women’s Spare Pair.
