Fours Head of the River

The first outing on the Tideway for our crews for this season was at Fours head on the 13th of November. Newcastle entered seven boats this year to fours head however two were scratched due to illness and injury.

From the Men’s squad the top ranked boat was made up of alumnus James Rudkin, Henley winners James Robson and Will New and fresher Dan Graham replacing an ill Will Stewart. Racing in Band 1 Coxless fours the relatively unprepared combination had a strong row finishing in seventh place.

The Men’s Squad also entered an U23 Coxless Quad which finished in a very impressive third place. The third of the Men’s boats entered was in Band 1 Coxless Quads. This boat was up against some very strong Club crews but still came away with a 6th place finish.

In the Women’s squad the top ranked boat was the Band 1 Coxless Quad of Alumnus Nicole Lamb and current students Fiona Chestnutt, Lola Anderson and Judith Anlauf. A very strong performance saw this crew finish in second place behind Leander Club. The Women’s Band 1 Coxed Four raced well and came away with 13th place in a very competitive field.
