BUCS Head

This weekend the Boat Club showed promising form in the run up to the Heads of the River on the tideway in two weeks. Four Golds, Seven Silvers, Three Bronzes meant NUBC placed 2nd in the Women’s Victor Ludorum and 1st in the Men’s Victor Ludorum.

Saturday

With only one boat entered on the Saturday of BUCS Head, all eyes were on the Women’s Beginner Coxless Quad to start the weekend off. In tricky conditions the Novices came out and had a very strong row, showing their strength on home water, placing second behind the University of Leeds.

Sunday - Division one

Men’s Squad

The stand out performance for the Men’s squad in division one was the Champ Lightweight Coxless Four who won gold ahead of Nottingham Uni Boat Club who won the event last year. The Men’s Champ Coxless Quad came second and the Men’s Champ Coxless Four placed third. In the Men’s Champ Coxed Four Newcastle came second with the Men’s Inter Coxed Four also coming second. The two Inter Coxless Quads came second and tenth.

Women's Squad

The Women’s First Eight had a solid row and placed third in a strong field of Champ Eights. The Second Eight came second in Inter Eights behind a fast UL eight and the Third Eight, including 4 novices, came eleventh. These results show some promising speed going into the next two weeks of training up to Women’s Eights Head of the River where the Women will look to step on again.

Sunday - Division Two

Women's Squad

In the Women’s Fours and Quads the stand out performance once again came from the lightweights who came first in Champ Lightweight Coxless Fours and only 9 seconds behind the winners of Women’s Champ Coxless Fours. The Women’s Inter Coxless Quad came second with the two Inter Coxed Fours coming first and seventeenth. The Women's Champ Coxless Four came fourth.

Men's Squad

The Men’s squad fielded an impressive five Eights for the second division including two lightweight eights. The first lightweight eight came first in Intermediate Eights, equaling their result from last years BUCS Head. The second heavyweight Eight and the second lightweight Eight came third and fifth respectively in Inter Eights showing impressive depth in this year’s squad. The first Eight came fifth in Champ Eights against a tough field and will use the next two weeks to find speed before heading to the tideway for the Head of the River.

Over the next two weeks both squads will continue training before travelling to London for the Women's Eights Head of the River on the 10th of March and the Men's Head of the River on the 11th of March.
