President – Barnaby StROUD TURP

Barney is one of the club’s top lightweight rowers, and has previously served as Treasurer on the committee. Organised and dedicated, he is the ideal person to steer the club towards ever greater things. As a fourth year medic, he certainly knows how to keep himself healthy, and unofficial estimates show that he is personally responsible for 87% of the north east’s quinoa consumption

secretary- TOMMY REEVES

Following on from a year as Kit Secretary, Tommy is transferring his excellent organisation and efficiency to the role of Secretary. As a cox, Tommy twice represented NUBC at Henley and won a host of BUCS medals. This year he is taking a step back from coxing to assist coaching the women’s squad. Therefore, after years of dieting, he is finally free to indulge, safe in the knowledge that he needn’t worry about getting stuck in the cox’s seat.

treasurer- THOMAS JAMES

This year the boat club accounts will be managed by the responsible economics student, Thomas James. TJ has gone from strength to strength as a member of the senior men’s squad, jumping from the third to the first eight in the space of a year, and going on to represent Great Britain at EUSA.

Calum, a fourth year engineer, intends to harness all his Henley-winning expertise to lead and inspire the men’s squad this season. As a proud Scot, he models his leadership on Mel Gibson’s William Wallace, and can regularly be spotted mooning Durham crews as they row along Newburn Straight.

Women’s Captain – Emily ford

Em, a third year fine art student, is one of NUBC’s most successful oarswomen, and is in charge of leading our women’s squad. Her exploits last year included winning a mountain of BUCS medals, winning Women’s Henley, and representing GB at the U23 World Championships, where she won a bronze medal.

Alumni Officer – TOM MOUNTAIN

As a studious third year, dedicated rower, active member of the Athletic Union, and captain of the University Challenge team, it’s a wonder Tom Mountain has time to carry out his role as Alumni Officer. But he somehow manages, and this year looks to continue strengthening NUBC’s relationship with our alumni club, the Blue Star Boat Club.

Social Secretaries – KATE RILEY & TOM HOSFIELD

Kate and Hoss both started rowing as novices last year, going on to win medals at BUCS Regatta. Their organisation of socials and club dinners ensures that NUBC retains by far the best social scene of all the University’s clubs and societies. The commitment they show to their role is unquestionable. Come what may, they’ll be there for every social – a true demonstration of Blue Star sacrifice if ever there was one.

Ben and Sasha have the daunting responsibility of protecting NUBC’s status as the UK’s best-dressed boat club. Their winter range has already taken the catwalks of Paris and Milan by storm, with more yet to come this summer.

Sponsorship and Fundraising Officers -

Will anslow wilson & GRACE HOCKENHULL

Will and Grace, both third year geographers, are once again in charge of organising the various fundraisers that take place throughout the year. As the brains behind the world-famous naked calendars, they spend most of their time sorting through deluges of fan mail.

Safety officer- JOE ANDERSON

Joe’s superb abilities in mathematics make him ideal for the role of Safety Officer; if the number of boat lights mysteriously decreases, he’ll know about it. Aside from keeping us all safe, he is also one of the top members of our lightweight squad, winning multiple medals at BUCS last year.

Publicity Officer – SAM CASEY

Taking over the role of Publicity Officer this year is the charming, handsome, witty, tall, muscular, heroic, humble, inimitable oarsman, Sam ‘Deadlift’ Casey. His role comprises manning the club’s social media profiles, publicising fundraising events, and writing the committee biographies for the website.
