GB U23 Trials - Boston

NUBC has had a busy few days having sent 18 athletes to Boston alongside the rest of the squad doing the first set of testing for the 22/23 season.

On the Saturday, we had almost the entire women’s squad gaining PB’s as well as over half the men also gaining PB’s in the 2K tests. This meant 14 of the 16 rowers at Boston trials managed to qualify for the 5K water time trial on the Sunday.

The 5K on Sunday brought more stellar results with the men’s pair of Geroge Prior and Ben Brockway placing as the 12th full pair and only two seconds back from them was Tom Brumwell and Thibe Vandermeulen in which Thibe came in as the 4th ranked U21. Three other Newcastle pairs of Sam O’Connor with Aidan Wilson, James Purves Liddelle with Dan Jones and Harvey Orskov with Ed Sanderson coming in as the 9th, 10th and 11th in the U21 pairs respectively.

All the women were in singles for the 5K on Sunday with Rachel Bradley having a great row coming in as the 3rd ranked U23 and taking the top spot in the U21 category. Next behind Rachel was Lucy Thomson who placed 16th in the U21 category with Annie Bates also put in a big performance placing 24th in the U21 category. Emily Strange also raced well placing 37th in the u23 category.

We are very pleased with how the entire squad performed and hope to build on these strong results as we move back into the big boats for Rutherford Head.
